Lilith Kraxner and Milena Czernovsky’s Bluish, winner of BIEFF Grand Prize

Bluish, the second feature film by the Austrian duo Lilith Kraxner and Milena Czernovsky, was named the winner of the 2024 International Experimental Film Festival (BIEFF) Grand Prize at the gala held on Sunday at the Elvire Popesco Cinema in Bucharest.

According to a press release sent by the organizers sent to AGERPRES on Monday, a special mention of the jury was awarded to Cu Li Never Cries, the debut film of Vietnamese director Pham Ngoc Lan.

The jury for the International Feature Film Competition was composed of Tsveta Dobreva, director of the Marseille International Documentary Film Festival (FID Marseille), Christopher Small, editorial coordinator of the Locarno Film Festival, and Ana David, member of the selection committee of the Panorama section at the Berlinale.

Raya Al Souliman’s Lucky Girl Syndrome won the Award for Best Romanian Film, and a special mention for visual concept was awarded to Surge of Transference by director Geo Barcan.

The jury of the National Competition Jury was composed of Aleksandra Lawska – independent curator of Polish origin specialized in working with short films, Michel Rensen – program coordinator of the Go Short – International Short Film Festival Nijmegen and Radu Pervolovici – director of the META Cultural Foundation.

Like A Sick Yellow directed by Norik Sefa won the BIEFF Award for Best Short Film.

The Award for Best Director went to Ukrainian Natalyia Ilchuck, creator of The Seventh Shift, and the Award for Best Visual Concept went to the short film Towards The Sun, Far From The Center, directed by Luciana Merino.

The jury of the International Short Film Competition Jury was composed of Morena Faverin – co-artistic director of Lago Film Festival, Azin Feizabadi – member of the Berlinale Shorts selection committee, and Niels Putman – co-founder and editor of Talking Shorts magazine, artistic director of the Kortfilm.be platform and collaborator of Film Fest Gent and Fantoche Int’l Animation Film Festival.

The 14th edition of the International Experimental Film Festival, organized by the Manekino Cultural Association in partnership with Printor Com, took place from September 24 to 29.
