Leaders to hold their first meeting of 2016

The leaders of the two communities in Cyprus, President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci, will hold their first meeting of 2016 Thursday morning in efforts to find a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus issue.

UN Secretary-General`s Special Advisor on Cyprus, Espen Barth Eide will attend the meeting to be held at the UNPA in Nicosia. The leaders are expected to meet again on the 14th and 29th of January.

In their joint televised message on the occasion of Christmas and the New Year, President Anastasiades and the Akinci had wished for peace and for the island`s reunification.

The latest round of negotiations began in May 2015, aiming to reunite Cyprus under a federal roof, divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion.
