The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, together with the Minister of Finance, Labor and Transfers, Hekuran Murati, have launched the platform for the registration of non-governmental organizations and businesses as social enterprises.

This government policy was said to encourage the activation in the labor market of persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups. As a condition for obtaining the social enterprise status, it is if the NGOs or businesses have a structured activity for the provision of services for vulnerable groups or if they employ at least 30 percent of the staff from the same groups.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that these government policies will ensure that the state will offer equal opportunities to all citizens.

“For the first time in Kosovo, our government offers the possibility for non-governmental organizations and businesses to register and obtain the status of social enterprises. So in our country we have public, private and social enterprises. We are finally implementing the existing legal framework in order to address the needs of vulnerable groups in society through the development of the social enterprise sector. The facilities that we will offer to social enterprises, on the one hand, encourage the activation in the labor market of persons from vulnerable groups, while on the other hand, they ensure the redistribution of income to serve precisely these groups. Both to increase employment, but also welfare; employment at the beginning through incorporating, whereas welfare at the end through the redistribution of profit,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Finance, Labor and Transfers, Hekuran Murati, considered this platform very important to help vulnerable groups in the country.

Kurti and Murati’s meeting with NGOs and businesses was open only to the speeches of the government women, however, at the moment when the other representatives took the floor, the media left the discussion room.
