Kurti: Kosovo has its place in the Council of Europe, it has met the legal requirements and democratic standards

At the first meeting of the Coordinating Group for the membership of the Republic of Kosovo in the Council of Europe, Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that the state has met the legal requirements and democratic standards to become a member of the Council of Europe.
During this meeting, the prime minister emphasized that the state of Kosovo, which is built on the values of the Council of Europe, has its place in this international organization.
According to Kurti, good governance and democratic progress have paved the way for Kosovo’s membership process in the Council of Europe.
According to him, now that the membership process is approved in the Parliamentary Assembly, the substantial stage begins, which is accompanied by fact-gathering visits, for which he required better coordination of the working group.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Donika Gërvalla, stated that now that Kosovo has passed the first stage of the membership process in the Council of Europe, the further progress of this process depends on the coordination of this group.
Gërvalla asked all institutions to commit themselves so that the membership happens as soon as possible.
On May 12 of last year, Kosovo applied for membership in the Council of Europe.
Whereas, in April of this year, the Committee of Ministers with more than 2/3 of the votes of the member states decided in favor of completing the first stage of Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe, approving the request for membership to the Parliamentary Assembly.
