Kajan: Politics must not interfere in the editorial policy of a public media

SARAJEVO, August 30 (FENA) – Sanel Kajan, President of the Committee for Information of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, called a session of this parliamentary body for Monday, September 2. Before the members of the Committee will be the item on the Method of electing and appointing members of the Governing Board of the RTV FBiH.

Kajan says that, among other things, the Committee for Information takes care of the realization of the special social interest of the House of Representatives in public enterprises of information activities founded by the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in accordance with the law, and considers drafts and proposals of laws, other regulations and general acts and other issues from the field of information and gives opinions and proposals to the House of Representatives.

Kajan tells FENA that he will insist on a legal and transparent way of electing the members of the Governing Board of the Radio and Television Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“I am especially against the interference of politics in the editorial policy of public media,” says Kajan.

“If the writings are proven to be right that among the candidates for members and even the president of the Board of RTV FBiH there is a person who has been deeply compromised through his previous work, someone who openly supports a parastatal creation, who has publicly declared that he would block the entire country and who calls for the collapse of the Federation of BiH, I will strongly oppose his appointment to any public position.

In that case, I expect the Selection and Appointments Committee to reject his application and publicly condemn this anti-state action. Members of the Board of Directors of the FTV Governing Board cannot be persons characterized by unprofessionalism and open political affiliation,” points out Kajan.

The Information Committee will probably come out with an opinion and conclusion to the public and the Parliament, which is also the founder of the Radio and Television of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, on September 2.

On the other hand, the Speaker of the House of Representatives Dragan Mioković told FENA that he believed that the majority in the parliament supports what has been done so far by the joint working group of both houses of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH for the election of the Governing Board of the RTV FBiH.

The new Governing Board of the RTV FBiH has not been elected for years, and the incumbent government is announcing a competition for four members.

The opposition in the FBiH questions the decision to announce a competition for all four members of the Board because the law in force states that only one member of the Board can be replaced annually.

On the other hand, the government refers to the advice of legal experts and claims that due to the long-term non-election of members, they are in a situation as if they are electing the Governing Board of the RTV FBiH for the first time, for which the law allows all four members of the Board to be elected at once.

Mioković says that it is the right of the opposition to have doubts and that he encourages it to take the steps foreseen by the law and take it to court.
