On a visit on Sunday to Cernauti, Ukraine, Minister-delegate for Romanians Overseas Angel Tilvar met Vice-Governor of the Cernauti Regional State Administration Ruslan Sencyuk and Cernauti Mayor Kaspruk Oleksey, with Tilvar voicing worries over Moldova’s former Prime Minister Mircea Druc, also a Romanian citizen, having been denied entry to Ukraine.
Romania’s Foreign Ministry (MAE) reports in a press release that Tilvar said the Romanian community of Odesa was the first to condemn the illegal annexation of Crimea, which they deemed illegal and running contrary to the law.
“At the same time, given that Romania was the first member state of the European Union to ratify the association agreement between Ukraine and the European Union, Tilvar voiced worries over Mircea Druc, a Romanian citizen, having been precluded form continuing his trip by denying him entry to Ukraine. Tilvar also underscored the importance of the freedom of the press in the context of the freedom of movement for persons and journalists’ unconditional access to events they deem relevant. In the same context, the minister-delegate requested the opinion of the officials he met on the incident,” reads the MAE release.
The Romanian official voiced hope that the positive high-level messages will be taken over the local administrations, which are important in the plan that also aims to continue international support for Ukraine. More…
