The planning for a humanitarian corridor, from the beginning, provided and provides for a one-way maritime corridor for the delivery of humanitarian aid to the civilian population of Gaza, Cyprus’ Government Spokesman, Konstantinos Letymbiotis, told CNA on Friday, noting that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Palestinian Authority was expected to visit Cyprus.
Invited by CNA to comment on local media reports on concerns expressed by Palestinian officials regarding the relocation of residents from the Gaza Strip through the ships that will carry the humanitarian aid, Letymbiotis noted that from the beginning, when the plan was developed, both the President of the Republic as well as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, held meetings with members of the leadership of the Palestinian Authority whereby they presented the initiative. He also referred to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Constantinos Kombos’ visit last October to Ramallah, “precisely to discuss the situation in the region, as well as the initiative, which also takes into account the concerns of the Palestinian Authority”.
