House President sends condolences to Egypt for Boutros Boutros Ghali’s death

Boutros Boutros Ghali was a gifted diplomat who worked tirelessly to promote the principles enshrined in the UN Charter, House of Representatives President Yiannakis Omirou has said.

According to an official press release, Omirou sent his Egyptian counterpart Ali Abdel-Aal a message of condolences over the passing away of former UN Chief Boutros Boutros Ghali.

In his message Omirou conveys the genuine condolences of the House of Representatives to the people of Egypt, the country`s political leadership and Ghali`s family.

“Boutros Boutros Ghali will be remembered in history as the first Arab to lead the UN during a particularly difficult period, full of challenges.”

He was, he adds, “a gifted diplomat who worked tirelessly to promote the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter.”

Omirou further noted Ghali`s contribution to the efforts to find a solution to the Cyprus problem
