House President Yiannakis Omirou expressed on Monday disappointment over Turkey`s intransigence concerning the Cyprus problem and stressed the need for foreign and European governments to exert pressure on Anakara.
According to an official announcement, Omirou met this morning with a group of students from the Greek American community, who are visiting Cyprus as part of their annual educational visit, organized by the American Hellenic Institute Foundation (ΑHIF).
The President of the House of Representatives briefed the students on developments in Cyprus, following the recent resumption of the UN-led peace talks, expressing cautious optimism about the new Turkish Cypriot leader.
The students were accompanied by ΑHIF President Nick Larigakis and Georgea Polizos, responsible for legislative issues in the Institute.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. UN-led talks, aiming to reunite the island under a federal roof, resumed on May 15, this year.
