Greece`s views and concerns as regards the ongoing Cyprus peace talks were discussed during a meeting Greek FM Nikos Kotzias had Monday with UNSG Special Envoy for Cyprus Espen Barth Eide. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Kotzias raised the issue of guarantees and the presence of Turkish occupying forces on the island of Cyprus, pointing out that the Turkish army must withdraw from the country.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkish troops invaded and occupied 37% of its territory. UN-backed talks aiming to reunite the island under a federal roof resumed in May 2015.
