ForMin Aurescu visits Jerusalem Yad Vashem Memorial

Foreign Affairs Minister Bogdan Aurescu, currently on a two-day official visit to Israel, on Monday took a trip to the Yad Vashem Memorial in Jerusalem, saying on the occasion that Romania’s priorities for its 2016 term at the chairmanship of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) will be training police and representatives of the judiciary in the combat of discrimination.

According to a Foreign Affairs Ministry release, the focus of the upcoming Romanian chairmanship of the IHRA will be on the education of media representatives, given their role as opinion shapers, broadening the horizon of education on the Holocaust and promoting research thereon in member states and alliance partners, but also on training police and representatives of the judiciary in the combat of discrimination.

“Minister Bogdan Aurescu mentioned that these elements represent the three pillars of the Romanian IHRA chairmanship, but that other projects are also being envisaged and reviewed, on themes related to human rights and anti-Semitism or the Roma genocide, and ways to develop this subject within the IHRA,” reads the release.
