Foreign Ministry: Romania aims to contribute to creating a safe and fair environment for all women
Bucharest, Nov 25 /Agerpres/ – Romania aims to contribute to creating a safe and fair environment for all women, regardless of nationality, culture, or social status, according to a message from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) sent on Monday, marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
Thus, the MAE reaffirms its commitment to promoting and protecting the rights of women and girls, both nationally and internationally.
As a member state of the Human Rights Council (2023-2025) and the Commission on the Status of Women (2024-2028), Romania seeks to promote the rights of women and girls, considering their protection essential for the development of a just and inclusive society.
“Romania continues to support international initiatives in the women’s rights area, working closely with international partners to strengthen cooperation and the exchange of best practices in combating gender-based violence and promoting equality of opportunity,” the Romanian ministry points out.
The MAE shows that the promotion of these objectives internationally is materialised, at the national level, through the adoption of the National Strategy for Promoting Equal Opportunities and Treatment between Women and Men and Preventing and Combating Domestic Violence for the period 2022-2027. This strategy represents an important step in strengthening an effective legislative and institutional framework that ensures the protection of women and girls, as well as their access to justice, education, and support services.
November 25 was designated by the United Nations General Assembly as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness of the fact that women worldwide face violence, including rape, domestic violence, and other forms of abuse, while also highlighting that the scope and true nature of this phenomenon often remain hidden.
In 2024, Romania celebrates ten years since it signed the “Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence.”
