The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus and Russia, Ioannis Kasoulides and Sergey Lavrov, have exchanged greetings on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cyprus and Russia, with the forthcoming visit of Lavrov being hailed as the best conclusion for the year, which could be considered a milestone in the course of bilateral relations.
In his letter, Lavrov notes that the friendly relations established immediately after the independence of the Republic of Cyprus have gained momentum over the past few years and continue to develop in various sectors, to the benefit of both peoples.
Cypriots and Russians, he says, have traditional close ties, which are a sound foundation for the further deepening and expansion of cooperation on an international and bilateral level.
Kasoulides, in his letter, refers to the significant support Cyprus has had from the Russian Federation in its effort to overcome the consequences of the Turkish invasion and occupation, and to reunify the country, and points out the importance of the Russian community living in Cyprus towards strengthening contacts on a citizens level.
Referring to the visit of President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades to Moscow last February and the signing of ten documents of bilateral agreements, which opened new scope for cooperation and the development of bilateral relations, Kasoulides expresses certainty that the forthcoming visit of Lavrov to Nicosia will be the best conclusion for the year, which could be considered a milestone in the course of bilateral relations.
