Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis, in an interview with the radio station “Real FM”, stressed that “Greece will never discuss or accept advice and concessions regarding the exercise of its sovereignty”.

Gerapetritis stressed that Greece will remain committed to international law and reiterated that it will not abrogate any right.  “Greece’s intention, if we agree, is to discuss the delimitation of the EEZ,” he said, stressing that this discussion can only be held on this issue. “There are no other issues that can be put on the table and be consistent with this.”

Gerapetritis stressed that the approach, which is being attempted with Turkey is a strategic choice of Greece, after the 2023 elections and the devastating earthquakes in the neighboring country, does not work in any way on the basis of revoking the fundamental positions held by Greece, but neither does Turkey.

“We never believed that it would be possible overnight for Turkey to undo positions that have been developed over the last 30 years. All the positions that are being developed, the positions on the ‘blue homeland’, the maximalist positions on maritime zones, demilitarization, grey zones, are all Turkish theories that have been developed over decades,” Gerapetritis said. .

For this reason, Gerapetritis said that Greece made the choice to proceed on the basis of a positive agenda, that is, “to build trust between the two governments and the two peoples, primarily in those chapters that can unite us and then to make an attempt to solve the much larger lasting issues that plague us.”
