UN Secretary General`s Special Advisor on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide and the negotiators of the two communities in Cyprus, Greek Cypriot Andreas Mavroyiannis and Turkish Cypriot Ozdil Nami hold a meeting today with the working group on EU matters, in the framework of the UN – led peace talks.
The meeting was announced by Eide, in a post on his personal account on twitter, where he wrote “today, Ozdil Nami, Andreas Mavroyiannis and I are meeting with the Working Group on EU matters”.
It is recalled that yesterday, the two negotiators continued their discussion on issues of property and criteria on territory, together with Eide.
The leaders of the two communities in Cyprus, President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci will meet again on the 1st and 14th of September. Meanwhile, the negotiators will continue to meet intensively between leaders` meetings.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkey invaded and since then occupies 37% of this Mediterranean island`s territory. The leaders of the two communities have been engaged in UN-backed talks since mid May with the aim to reunite the island under a federal roof.
