Dodik: I have hope that the US sanctions against me would be lifted

BANJA LUKA, November 7 (FENA) – President of the entity of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik said today that he hoped that after the victory of Donald Trump for the presidency of the United States of America, sanctions against him would be lifted.

“Of course, I have hope. Two days before Trump’s inauguration for his first term, for which I received an invitation to attend, I was sanctioned by the Democratic administration. During Trump’s four years in power, they could not lift the sanctions because there were people there who could not be dismissed. I have hope, I believe in what I am doing. I live for the respect of the Dayton Agreement in BiH, and the one undermining the Constitution of BiH is the Constitutional Court of BiH, said Dodik.

He stated that a cocktail party was organized at the President of RS Palace yesterday to celebrate Trump’s victory, and that last night an American flag with an image of Donald Trump was displayed on the Palace.

“The American flag was there because Trump was on it, and the RS flag was also there. We celebrated Trump’s victory yesterday, and he now has two months to take over the management of the American system. This period must be endured,” added Dodik.

He believes that Trump’s victory means ‘slightly easier conditions under which the government in the RS will try to reach the decision-makers.’

“We already have these contacts, but that does not mean we will fundamentally change the relationship here, but we will strive to change it,” said Dodik.

When asked to comment on the latest U.S. sanctions, announced yesterday afternoon, which placed the company ‘Elpring’ on the blacklist, Dodik said that there would now be a message to bankers that their banks would be closed if they do not terminate the accounts.

“New sanctions are likely to follow, which will be even tougher. But, that suits us as it will be easier for us to reach where we need to go,” concluded Dodik.
