President of the Cyprus House of Representatives Yiannakis Omirou and Vice Prime Minister and Defence Minister of Lebanon Samir Mokbel expressed on Tuesday their willingness to further bilateral ties on all levels.
Mokbel, who is on an official visit to Cyprus at the invitation of Defence Minister Christoforos Fokaides, met with Omirou this morning and discussed developments in Cyprus and Lebanon, as well as the refugee crisis.
According to an official announcement, Omirou underlined the importance of cooperation between the two countries in promoting stability and peace in the wider region.
He briefed the Lebanese official on the latest developments concerning a Cyprus settlement, noting that the key to a solution lies with Turkey who needs to change its stance and meet its obligations to the EU and all its member states.
Mokbel talked about the present political situation in Lebanon and the problems in the region, making particular reference to the refugee crisis and the situation in Syria.
