Deputies’ speaker Zgonea executive chair, three ministers among SocDem Party VPs

The ruling Social Democrat Party (PSD) elected its new leadership in the Congress held Sunday.

Chamber of Deputies Speaker Valeriu Zgonea is the new executive chairman.

The 10 vice chair positions for men went — in the order of the number of votes — to Andrei Dolineaschi (deputy, incumbent secretary general of the PSD), Victor Negrescu (member of the European Parliament), Georgian Pop (deputy, chairman of the Chamber’s committee for the control of the Romanian Intelligence service), Ionut Vulpescu (culture minister), Nicolae Banicioiu (health care minister), Mihai Tudose (economy minister), Stefan Viorel (deputy, chair of the budget and finance committee), Gheorghe Simon (deputy), Gabriel Vlase (deputy, chair of the electoral code committee) and Mihai Chirica (Iasi deputy mayor).

The four women vice chairs, running on a separate list, were Senator Gabriela Firea, Craiova Mayor Olguta Vasilescu, former education minister Ecaterina Andronescu, and Doina Pana of the Bistrita County Women’s Organization of the PSD. More…
