Cyprus-Serbia Presidents meet in Belgrade, discuss “excellent” bilateral relations

Cyprus’ President Nikos Christodoulides, and his Serbian counterpart, Aleksandar Vučić, on Friday referred, during their meeting in Belgrade to the excellent bilateral relations between the two countries and expressed willingness to further strengthen relations in trade and tourism.

According to a statement by the Presidency, Vučić expressed his belief that this meeting will lead to further close cooperation in the near future.

President Christodoulides referred to Nicosia’s commitment and readiness to work for substantive progress on Serbia’s European perspective, especially during Cyprus’ EU Presidency in the first half of 2026.

On the issue of Kosovo, he said Cyprus “fully supports the sovereignty, the territorial integrity of Serbia.”

He also announced Cyprus’ participation in the World Expo 2027, to be held in Belgrade.

Vučić, welcoming President Christodoulides, addressed him as a “brother” and a “friend” noting that Cypriots should feel “at home” when in Serbia.

“We are profoundly grateful to Cyprus, to you personally, for being very much supportive not only of Serbia’s EU path, but to developing our bilateral cooperation in all different fields”, he said.

The Serbian President noted that bilateral collaboration in the fields of agriculture, innovation, and military technology, “should be improved in the near future”, expressing hope that this meeting would contribute to further cooperation.

He also thanked Cyprus for supporting Serbia’s territorial integrity and for observing and respecting the UN Charter and UN resolutions.
