Cyprus grants asylum status to 1.215 persons in 2014

Cyprus granted asylum status to 1.215 persons in 2014, according to data published by the EU Statistical Service, Eurostat.

According to the data, the Republic of Cyprus` authorities granted to 1.150 persons the status of subsidiary protection and to another 65 the status of a refugee.

The vast majority of immigrants (92,5%) come from Syria.

Data for Cyprus does not include cases of repatriation.

The EU received in total 184.665 applications, of which 103.670 concerned refugee status.

In 2014, Germany was the EU country receiving most immigrants (47.555), followed by Sweden with 33.025 and France with 20.640. The lowest number was recorded in Estonia with only 20 immigrants.
