Cyprus FM to brief UK and New Zealand counterparts on UN-led peace talks

Foreign Affairs Minister Ioannis Kasoulides will meet next week with UK`s Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond and New Zealand`s Minister of Foreign Affairs Murray ΜcCully, to brief them on the Cyprus peace talks.

Kasoulides departs on Sunday for Luxembourg to participate in the Foreign Affairs Council of the European Union on Monday, an official press release said on Friday. The Council will discuss the external aspects of migration, EU regional strategy in Syria and Iraq and the strategy to combat Da`esh, as well as the Eastern Neighbourhood.

Before the Council meeting, Kasoulides will participate in a breakfast meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the European People`s Party (EPP).

The Foreign Minister will travel to London to chair a meeting of the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG).

During his stay in London, the Minister will hold separate meetings with the Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom Philip Hammond and the Foreign Minister of New Zealand, Murray Mc Cully, at their own initiative, to brief them on the latest developments in the negotiations for a Cyprus settlement. He will also meet with the Archbishop of Thyateira and Great Britain Gregorios.

The latest round of UN-led peace talks began in May last year, between the leaders of the island’s two communities, with a view to finding a negotiated settlement that would reunite Cyprus under a federal roof.
