Joint Search and Rescue (S&R) drills will continue to take place in August, with the participation of Cyprus and other EU countries, namely Germany and France, within the S&R region of the Republic of Cyprus.
According to an announcement by the Ministry of Defence, the drills aim to maintain the level of readiness in dealing with aviation accidents and the evacuation of refugees from war-torn Middle East countries.
An exercise involving German warships took place on August 8, while another one, with the participation of a French Navy frigate is scheduled for August 24.
The drills are fully coordinated by the Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) in Larnaca, in cooperation with all parties involved, and are conducted according to Cyprus` National S&R Plan “Nearchos”.
