Cyprus’ national football team was defeated by 5-0 on Saturday, succumbing to the superiority of the Belgian squad, which ranks fourth in the world national football team standings.
Marouane Fellaini with two goals, Christian Benteke, Eden Hazard and Michy Batshuayi completed the scoring for the Belgian team.
In statements after the match, Cyprus` coach Charalampos Christodoulou said “we lost in the hands of a superior opponent.”
Pointing out the number of injuries in the Cypriot squad, Christodolou said “we need to look ahead.”
“To lose 5-0 is not good and we have to lift the players` spirits now because mentally they are down after such a heavy defeat. Now we will face Andorra and Wales. After those two games, we will know where we stand in this group,” he added.
