Cyprus and France to enforce cultural cooperation agreement

Cypriot Minister of Education and Culture Costas Kadis and French Minister of Culture and Communication Fleur Pellerin agreed on Friday to enforce the cultural cooperation agreement the two countries signed in 1994.

According to an official announcement, the two ministers met on the sidelines of the UNESCO ministerial meeting, in Paris.

Both said the agreement, which has remained inactive in the past few years, should be enhanced with issues of mutual interest. They also took stock of the excellent relations between the two countries with regard to culture.

Kadis and Pellerin talked about the need to strengthen Culture in the “Europe 2020” strategy, and discussed the possibility of undertaking initiatives with other European partners, aiming at strengthening cultural diversity in Europe.

They agreed that both Ministries would set up expert teams, to prepare the content of the new agreement.

Kadis invited his French counterpart to visit Cyprus.
