Cypriots display solidarity to France at various events throughout the island

In a display of solidarity towards the French people, following the terrorist attacks that took place in Paris, last Friday, Cypriots have gathered in various cities commemorating the victims.

In Larnaca, in the island`s eastern coast, the Municipal Art Gallery was illuminated in the colours of the French flag, while people attending the event, lit candles in the memory of those perished.

Larnaca Mayor Andreas Louroutziatis, the First Secretary of the Embassy of France in Cyprus Yann Braem and the Honorary Consul of France in Larnaca Sozos-Christos Theodoulou also attended.

Louroutziatis spoke of an act of “insane savagery” and condemned all similar attacks, both in France and in Lebanon, Syria, Russia, the US and London. Braem noted that the French people as well as the Cypriots were deeply affected by the terrorist attacks and thanked the Mayor of Larnaka and all people for their solidarity and friendship. Theodoulou also said that Cypriots stand in solidarity with the French.

In Limassol, in the southern coast of Cyprus, people attended a similar gathering at a central square, aiming to send a message of solidarity towards the French people. Those present lit candles and kept a minute of silence in memory of the victims.

French Consul Jean Pierre Bizet said that this was another difficult moment for France this year and thanked the people, noting that the event demonstrates the strong ties between the two peoples.
