Cypriot MPs in Yerevan for 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide

Cypriot MP Marios Garoyian, following an invitation by the President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, is participating in Yerevan in the Global Forum against the Crime of Genocide of Armenians and other events to mark the 100th anniversary since the Armenian Genocide.

Another MP is also in Yerevan, George Varnavas, who is attending the Forum as a Representative Member of the Inter-parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy.

During today` last session of the Forum, Garoyian expressed sorrow for the suffering of the Armenian people and reaffirmed his full support to the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide.

Garoyian stressed that it is the duty of the international community to condemn crimes against humanity and called for international recognition of the Armenian Genocide.

He recalled that the people of Cyprus are also suffering from Turkey’s expansionist policy, adding that its troops illegally occupy Cyprus’ northern part, violating the human rights of all Cypriots. He reiterated that Cyprus and Armenia are fighting a common struggle for the prevalence of justice and international law.

On the occasion of the Forum, Varnavas and the other members of the delegation of the Inter-parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy were received today by the President of the National Assembly of Armenia Galust Sahakyan.

Deputy Secretary General of the Inter-parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy Ioannis Amanatidis briefed Sahakyan on the action of the Assembly and reiterated its full support. He also referred to the Parliaments represented in the struggle for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
