Romania’s National Heritage Institute and the Culture Ministry will resume talks over entering the Brancusi Ensemble with the UNESCO World Heritage List by reopening the bid file withdrawn in 2014 by the Romanian Government following a recommendation not to enter from the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), Culture Minister Vlad Alexandrescu says in a Facebook post.
According to the minister, the 140th birth anniversary of sculptor Constatin Brancusi is celebrated on February 19, 2016, and that should be the best opportunity to bring back to attention and actuality the exceptional value of the Brancusi Ensemble of Targu Jiu and its registration with the UNESCO World Heritage List.
“To this end, we have set to remake the scientific foundations of the file including the allocation of adequate time and skill resources, including by coopting world experts in this area, as well as the necessary budgetary resources. Given the circumstances, we are expecting the file to be officially submitted to UNESCO in February 2018, at the earliest, with a proposal for prior consultations with the World Heritage Centre in September 2017,” says Alexandrescu.
