A reorganization of the health care system to respond “quicker” to events such as the Colectiv fire tragedy is needed, says the manager of the ‘Marius Nasta’ Institute for Lung Disease, Gilda Popescu.
In her opinion, the Government is the one that should allocate the necessary funds for a Colectiv Memorial.
AGERPRES: How do you see the building of a Colectiv Memorial as a symbol against forgetting?
Gilda Popescu: This is a good idea, in particular because at the time of this event we were hit by the authorities’ lack of response or the promptitude of response, and unfortunately unpleasant events occurred for many patients. We need to reorganise our healthcare system so that we could answer quicker to such events.
AGERPRES: How do you imagine this Colectiv Memorial? Should it be built at the site of the tragedy or somewhere else?
Gilda Popescu: Perhaps for a better awareness exercise of the population it should be built right there. The emotional part is extremely important for the success of such an action.
AGERPRES: Given the situation of the space where the Colectiv Club was situated, who and in what degree should take care of designing and constructing a Colectiv Memorial, including in this the finding of necessary financing: the Romanian state or the non-governmental organizations?
Gilda Popescu: The Romanian state. Cooperation is needed, that’s for sure, yet the Government is the one that must ensure the financing.
AGERPRES: What motto do you believe should define this Memorial?
Gilda Popescu: “Only in unity can we be victorious.”
AGERPRES: What do you believe should be the most important lesson remembered after visiting the Colectiv Memorial?
Gilda Popescu: Perhaps everybody should be aware that we need a legislation not so permissive, that things should be clear and that everybody must do their job without legislative wickets so that anybody solves these problems differently. More…
