Former Olympic judo champion Alina Dumitru says a Colectiv Memorial can be achieved by organising cultural, artistic and sport events.
Such a Memorial can be built either at the site of the tragedy or somewhere else, but the purpose is the same, namely to keep alive the image of those who lost their lives, she says.
According to Alina Dumitru, an eight-time European champion, the best motto for the Memorial is “Life takes priority”.
AGERPRES: How do you see the building of a Colectiv Memorial as a symbol against forgetting?
Alina Dumitru: I think this can be done by means of important events. I’m thinking that by organising cultural, artistic and sport events.
AGERPRES: How do you imagine this Colectiv Memorial? Should it be built at the site of the tragedy or somewhere else?
Alina Dumitru: Such Colectiv Memorial can be organised either at the site of the tragedy or in other places. The main purpose, ultimately, is to keep alive the image of those innocent who died in that event.
AGERPRES: Given the situation of the space where the Colectiv Club was situated, who and in what degree should take care of designing and constructing a Colectiv Memorial, including in this the finding of necessary financing: the Romanian state or the non-governmental organizations?
Alina Dumitru: I’m thinking, first and foremost, of the nongovernmental organisations. I think the nongovernmental organisations make the achievement of this Colectiv Memorial possible.
AGERPRES: What motto do you believe should define this Memorial?
Alina Dumitru: The best motto for such a Memorial is “Life takes priority”.
AGERPRES: What do you believe should be the most important lesson remembered after visiting the Colectiv Memorial?
