The ceremony for the change of command of the Multinational Battle Group for which France is the framework nation will take place on Monday, starting at 12:00, at the Getica Joint National Training Center in Cincu, central Brasov County.
According to the Ministry of National Defence (MApN), on the occasion of this event, the area of the military camp where the French soldiers are stationed will be named General Berthelot Camp.
The initiative comes as a tribute to the French hero, symbol of the bond between France and Romania.
On this occasion, a plaque in honour of General Henri Mathias Berthelot will also be unveiled.
The NATO Battle Group Cincu, whose framework nation is France, was established in May 2022, shortly after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
General Henri Mathias Berthelot was the leader of the French military mission that actively participated in the reorganisation of the Romanian army since 1916, instilling confidence and contributing to its successful rebuilding. The French military mission also contributed to the elaboration of the operational plans for the battles of summer 1917 against the German troops, and the victories of Marasti, Marasesti and Oituz in July-September 1917 were also a result of the reorganisation of the Romanian army undertaken by General Berthelot.
