Bookfest 10th edition to present over 1 ml volumes, 200 publishers

Over one million volumes and 200 publishers will be on display at the tenth edition of the International Book Fair Bookfest running over May 20-24 at the Bucharest Romexpo exhibition complex, the organizers inform in a release to AGERPRES on Monday.

Now at a full-decade edition, Bookfest will open on Wednesday at noon with a ceremony that expects to see Minister of Culture Ioan Vulpescu attending, and which relies on the confirmed presence of Vladimir Valky — Ambassador of the Czech Republic (Bookfest 2015 honor guest country), Ramiro Fernandez Bachiller — Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain (Bookfest 2010 guest of honor), Zakonyi Botond — Hungarian Ambassador (Bookfest 2011 guest of honor), Marc Bruchez — counsellor to the Swiss Confederation’s Ambassador (Bookfest 2013 guest of honor along with Germany and Austria), and Grigore Arsene — president of the Romanian Publishers Association, the organization that has been initiating and running all Bookfest editions.

The Czech Republic is the honor guest country of the tenth Bookfest edition. Under the slogan “Czech Republic — Republic of Literature,” the Czech Centre prepares a series of events designed to promote Czech literature and enhance the interest of the Romanian public for contemporary authors, but also for Czech classics. The “Literature Republic” will border on the “Beer Republic,”, a stand organized by brewer Staropramen, which aims to get the Bookfest public acquainted with other facets of Czech culture. More…
