Attempted world record-breaking CPR training session gathers over 10,000 people, yet misses out

Over ten thousand people gathered on Saturday on the National Arena in Bucharest for a CPR training session attempted as a record breaker with the largest number of participants. However Romania’s effort missed out, as at least 11,900 people were needed for the entry to the Guinness World Records and the crowd in Bucharest was “just” 10,175-strong.

“We’ll have an impressive number of people who will know how to properly perform the life-saving maneuver and there’s more than just that. We will change attitudes. When one knows what to do, he will stop next to a person in need and will readily provide first aid,” general manager of the Bucharest Ilfov Ambulance Service Alis Grasu said at the beginning of the event.

The previous record was set on September 17, 2013 in Munster — Germany, where 11,840 trainees learned the resuscitation procedures simultaneously.

The “Record for life” event was organized in the context of the 110th anniversary of the Ambulance Service. Guided by about 600 instructors, the trainees learned how to assess a patient, recognize cardiac arrest, give chest compressions and ventilation. More…
