Anastasiades and Akinci to discuss pending issues, except the property issue, on Thursday

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci will discuss pending issues related to all chapters of the negotiations, except the property issue, during their next meeting on Thursday, November 5, in the framework of the UN-led negotiations on the Cyprus problem, CNA has learned.

During their meeting on Monday, attended by UN Secretary General`s Special Adviser on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide, which was followed by a working dinner, Anastasiades and Akinci exchanged views on the property issue.

A source close to the negotiations told CNA that Anastasiades and Akinci will discuss on Thursday other issues, from all chapters of the negotiations, in which there are disagreements, with a view to achieve convergences or eliminate disagreements. It added that the negotiators of the two sides, Andreas Mavroyiannis and Odzil Nami, will now look more thoroughly into the property criteria discussed on Monday by the leaders.

The property issue is expected to be discussed again during the leaders` meeting on November 18. As it has been announced, Anastasiades and Akinci, engaged in the UN-led talks since May this year, will also have meetings on November 20, 23 and 25.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkish troops invaded and occupied 37% of its territory.
