American Airlines (AA) added another direct flight to its itinerary in Europe, with a summer daily schedule between Athens (ATH) and Charlotte (CLT).
The summer addition brings AA’s daily flights for Athens to four, its highest total to date, with flights from Athens to Chicago (ORD), Philadelphia (PHL), and New York (JFK). The Athens-Charlotee flights will be on a Boeing 777-200.
American Airlines Vice President of International and Inflight Dining Operations José A. Freig said that through Charlotte Greek customers will have access to over 145 destinations in the United States. US travellers, he said, are seeking more European destinations that offer cultural, gastronomic, or adventure experiences. Athens is a basic destination in AA’s network and it is exciting that Charlotte is added to the increasing list of destinations in Greece, he added.
Athens International Airport (AIA) Communications & Marketing Director Ioanna Papadopoulou said that the new flight to an exciting destination in the southeastern part of the US is a great development. The new flight significantly boosts the linking of Athens with the US, along with flights to Chicago, New York/JFK and Philadelphia. The US market exhibits an impressive growth in Athens, and is constantly among the top and most popular of markets for Greece.
American Airlines also added new schedules in Europe, including additional flights from Madrid (MAD), Milan (MXP), Rome (FCO), and Venice (VCE). It will also reintroduce flights to Copenhagen (CPH), Napoli (NAP) and Nice (NCE) for summer 2025, while Napoli is now linked to Chicago (ORD) as well.
