Romanian alpinist Horia Colibasanu attacks the Manaslu (8,163 m) peak of the Himalaya Mts. on a new route, on the north slope, after in 2006 he made it to climb successfully the same peak on the standard route, a release says.
Colibasanu will climb in the pure style, without using artificial oxygen, considered as doping, and with no altitude guides, used by the commercial expeditions and tourists. Manaslu is considered to be one of the most dangerous mountains of 8,000 metres high, with a sad 9.9pct mortality rate, thrice the Everest’s, the highest mountain in the world (8,848 m).
There will be two teams attempting to climb Himalaya peaks on new routes this spring: Horia Colibasanu and Peter Hamor (Slovakia) on the north slope of the Manaslu, and Ueli Steck (Switzerland) and David Gottler (Germany), respectively, on the south slope of the Shisha Pangma (8,027 m).
The expedition is to start at end-March and will be completed at end-May, once with the end of the spring climbing season.
Colibasanu has most 8,000m peaks touched of the Romanian alpinists (7), among which the K2 (8,611m), Annapurna (8,091) and Dhaulagiri (8,167m), in Top5 mortal peaks of 8,000 metres in the world. More…
