German Foreign Affairs minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said on Monday night, in Sibiu (rd 272 km northwest of Bucharest), referring to the conflict in Ukraine, that a foreign nation calls itself a shield for one minority it has ethnic relations to, and lives in another state, Ukraine, thus justifying the violation of the sovereignty of this state.
Too often, in our history, matters related to minorities have been an explosive material and the trigger point for bilateral tensions. This is obvious if only we look to the current conflict in Ukraine, as in this case a foreign nation calls itself a shield of a minority it has ethnic links to, and which lives in another state, Ukraine, thus justifying the violation of this state’s sovereignty, Steinmeier said in Sibiu, in a speech he delivered on the occasion of 25th anniversary of the German Democratic Forum of Romania (FDGR).
